Season 1 · Danga Bay, My Peaceful Home

MyOtterWorld

“The mangrove was a big world. But for our little family, it was home.”

…or read the story

The whole otter family lined up on their sandbank beside the old ficus tree — Papa, the Adventurer, Mama, the Curious One and the Little Sister, biggest to smallest
follow the river down

Meet the family

Five otters, one den, and a whole river to explore.

The fur ladder — darkest to lightest

Mama strung five vine cords from things the river gave them — Papa's wooden bead, her scallop shell, a red seed, a grey pebble, and a rose-pink spiral shell. It is how you can tell everyone apart, even in silhouette.

One season, one day

Six little films that walk from misty dawn to a brand-new morning. Scroll, and the day goes by.

Their world

The mangrove is almost a character itself.

The giant buttress roots of the old ficus tree at dawn

The Old Ficus

The family's central landmark: a huge old ficus tree beside the river. Its enormous buttress roots make sheltered spaces, sandy patches, small caves, climbing walls and hiding places — and the doors to the otter den. Once you recognize it, you always know where home is.

A hidden den entrance between tangled ficus roots

The Den

Underneath the ficus tree, several tunnels connect multiple openings: one toward the river, several hidden among the roots, and one onto the sandy play area. The pups can enter through one hole and pop out of another — which is excellent for chasing games.

The wide calm river sparkling in midday light

The Wide River

Wide and calm, with small fish and larger fish, floating leaves, submerged roots, shallow paddling areas and deeper swimming holes. The water is clear enough that you can sometimes watch the otters swimming beneath the surface.

Seen in Part 2 · Part 3 · Part 6

Warm golden sand beside the den

The Sand Pit

A small sandy area beside the den — the pups' favourite playground. They roll, they wrestle, they dry their fur, they groom each other, they chase, and they fall asleep in a pile after all of it.
